Dig Safe

CALL BEFORE YOU DIG.  IT'S THE LAW.

Smart digging means making one very important and required phone call before each project that requires digging.  Whether you are a homeowner or a professional excavator, this one call gets your underground utility lines marked for FREE.  In Massachusetts, the law requires you to make the call at least 72 hours prior to digging.  This will ensure that the locations of buried utilities are clearly marked before the work begins.

There are two options for making this call:

  •  Call 811, or
  • 1-888-DIG-SAFE Call c     A

A new, federally-mandated national "Call Before You Dig" number, 811, was created to help protect you from unintentionally hitting underground utility lines while working on digging projects.  A wealth of information is available on the CALL 811 website.  You may also click here for a handy Consumer Fact Sheet.

Dig Safe System, Inc. is our local communication network for identifying the location of buried utilities.  Dig Safe processes all locate requests Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., excluding holidays.  Off-hour coverage is provided for emergency work only.  Anyone who digs in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont may contact Dig Safe.     A      commDigDDDDDddddd
