Motor Equipment Technician
Westfield Gas and Electric/Whip City Fiber is seeking a Motor Equipment Technician. (Min. $35.96 - Max $44.80)
Performs servicing of motor equipment, minor repairs, major repairs, and troubleshoots equipment. Rebuilds, replaces, or otherwise maintains all fleet equipment including, but not limited to, gasoline, diesel, electrical, mechanical, air and hydraulic components.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
- All duties of Junior Motor Equipment Technician
- Working with the manager and other mechanics to diagnose and repair the mechanical and electrical components of vehicles.
- Listening to co-workers to learn more about vehicle history, potential problems, and the services they would like to receive.
- Performing test drivers, inspections, and other diagnostic tests on vehicles to identify where problems exist and determine which parts need to be repaired or replaced.
- Completing preventative maintenance on vehicles, such as performing oil changes, flushing and replacing fluids, replacing brakes, replacing and rotating tires.
- Repairing damage to the body of the vehicle and washing and painting the vehicle’s exterior.
- Generating timelines and estimates for repairs and discussing options with clients.
- Inspecting internal systems and controls to ensure the vehicle is operating properly and in compliance with state regulations.
- Maintaining accurate records relating to clients, their vehicles, parts, and service history.
- Using shop equipment as instructed, performing regular maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Engaging in learning opportunities to update job knowledge and technical skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of Massachusetts inspection/emissions procedures.
Qualifications and Entrance Requirements
- Working knowledge of all the above and ability to expand knowledge relative industry advancements and trends
- Massachusetts Class “A” or “B” driver’s license
- Must have five (5) years’ experience in related field or completed ASE certified program for gasoline or diesel repair.
- Experience in commercial truck repair
- Possess a Massachusetts Hoisting Engineers license with minimum backhoe/front end loader and hydraulic boom endorsements
- Proficient in small engine repair
- Proficient in fork truck use and repair
- Proficient in air and hydraulic system functions and repair
- Experienced in snow removal operations
- Customer focused and a team player
- Able to follow technical drawings and one-line diagrams
- Ability to work shift work
- Ability to frequently lift 50 lbs. and carry 50 lbs. unrestricted while walking or standing
- Ability to tolerate exposure to dust, fumes and gases during course of normal job functions
